MSc in Project Management

Direct route to a PhD

Project manager with a doctorate: the Professional MSc in Project Management course, to launch in February 2012, opens the door to a doctorate for project managers. Those who successfully complete the four-semester, part-time course satisfy the entry requirements to embark on doctoral studies. For this Master's degree you will be given 120 credit points (ECTS: European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System). If you have 180 credit points from a previous Bachelor's course, for example, you will have 300 credit points on completion, the minimum number of credits for access to doctoral studies.

This is possible due to the high academic standard that the Professional MSc in Project Management course fulfils. Experts from the world of academia together with commercial managers have specified the focus and content of the programme; Ottmann & Partners had substantial input in terms of the content and teaching methods. The course, held over 64 attendance days (in Munich), teaches comprehensive classical project management - both theory and practical expertise. As well as theory, the curriculum includes courses on leadership, soft skills and business acumen. A further innovation is that the students can take advantage of the in-depth modules to specialise in an area of their choice. The options are the topics of "project management in the automotive sector", "IT project management" or "international project management".

The programme is offered in conjunction with the tradition-rich Association for the Promotion of Further Education at the University of the German Armed Forces (gfw, Munich) and the West-Saxonian University of Zwickau. The programme is accredited by AQUIN.

Specialists repeatedly refer to the reputation of the academic, university-linked training. The academic method helps the students to gain deep insights into project management and to look critically at its approaches. Further, the programmes finish with state-recognised examinations that are widely accepted in the commercial world. The programme also prepares students for internationally established project management certifications.

Those who want to Register for this programme need to satisfy certain prerequisites. We expect a successfully completed first degree (or comparable qualification), three years' professional experience and good English language skills. Prospective students must also pass an application interview.
